ecoShuttle was founded by married couple Fiona and Jesse Yun (and two others at the time) with the passion to curb carbon emissions from fossil fuels.
Our story began in 2006 when two best friends desperately wanted to help save the Earth with a vision of a greener way around Portland. The idea started after seeing an opportunity to be the first and only green airport shuttle in the area, but this idea grew as the team grew. Soon thereafter, it was decided that we should focus on the carbon polluting problem – cutting down on the ever-increasing Portland rush hour traffic and eliminating the one car, one driver problem that goes along with it.
"We are committed to having a small impact on our environment, while making life a little easier for Portlanders and tourists to our beautiful region."
A regular-route, green commuter shuttle came to fruition as the concept that forward-thinking businesses would buy into. Of course, parking problems, lightening carbon footprints and thus, enhancing public images would also be enticing factors to use our shuttle service. While that would take care of the peak commuting hours, a charter bus and van service seemed to accompany the scheduled service perfectly, offering wine tours and event shuttles on weekends.
In late June of 2007, we barely had our business plan written when we decided to call the Safeway Waterfront Blues Festival to see about renting a booth. They turned us down because we weren’t exactly the right fit but surprisingly, they invited us to transport the bands instead. We jumped at the chance, bought a 9-passenger Sprinter van, and a few days later were transporting some of the biggest names in Blues and Rock 'n Roll.
Our company has been celebrated in Portland because of what makes us stand out from our competition. From the beginning, we have walked the walk as a green business, operating our buses and vans using the highest blend of biodiesel available (in warmer weather B100 or B99), operating a bus on Straight Vegetable Oil (SVO), and now running on Renewable Diesel (R99). We are committed to having a small impact on our environment, while making life a little easier for Portlanders and tourists to our beautiful region.
Our company experienced incredible growth through the recession, offering commuter shuttles, transportation for bands and to go and see bands, running wedding shuttles, and tours that highlight the best of the beautiful Pacific Northwest. Our family has grown too. The two co-founders married and have two children. Jesse Yun now runs the company with a great team of 40 wonderful people.
